As VLDL loses triglycerides through lipoprotein lipase, it is converted into IDL and eventually LDL, the primary cholesterol carrier to peripheral tissues. The lecture highlights how LDL receptors, apoB-100, and hepatic uptake play a critical role in cholesterol homeostasis and how disruptions in this process contribute to atherosclerosis.
