This is my follow-up explaining that. The short of it is: I appreciate how the community (both you folk here and also the Uber/Lyft driver forum members, etc) all rallied around and basically agreed with Lyft. But the bigger surprise was not that you folk agreed with Lyft's decision in terminating the driver... the shock for me was when Michael himself reached out and contacted me. He apologized profusely, said that it was a rare moment for him, and that his words and actions were "completely out of line." He expressed regret also over the fact that this footage resulted in him receiving unexpected comments, many of them critical, and he asked me if I would consider taking the video down. While some folk might not agree, I told him right away that I had no problem with making it non-public. The clip was uploaded with the purpose of sharing it with Lyft, at their request. That has been accomplished. Keeping it online might make for a teachable moment for others, yes... but at the cost of this guy and his family? That's not right. So that's where things stand. I accepted Michael's apology and am hopeful that he takes some steps he outlined in his email in order to manage his anger better. I consider the matter closed with Lyft and ever since then we've had almost all perfect rides. Which is basically what we had before, also. Lyft and Uber are problematic in many ways, but generally I like the service. Thanks to all who reached out and responded with feedback when this initially was bigger news, etc. Stay safe out there!
