We've banked a large volume of organic matter/carbon in the form of leaf bags folks have put out on the curbs (for us?!) out in our composting area. We then mix and fold into that soaked whole grains. Buried in the leaves, woodchips and compostables, the seeds readily sprout. They remain hidden from the chickens for a bit and then once every few days..... SPROUT MOUNTAIN! We dig through the pile to bring up garden fork fulls of dense mats of rich, ropey, spouted amazingness for our hen friends. The sprouts are warm, super alive and active and incredibly delicious for our hens.
