While we had no sub-zero temperatures in the prior two winters, this winter they are commonplace. In fact, it's been so cold lately that the temperature inside the cold frames hasn't been above freezing for days at a time, and I haven't been able to harvest any greens. So, today, with the temperature above freezing and the sun shining bright, I couldn't resist picking a fresh salad from the winter garden. OYR is all about growing a lot of food on a little land using sustainable organic methods, while keeping costs and labor at a minimum. Emphasis is placed on improving soil quality with compost, mulch, and compost tea. No store-bought fertilizers, soil amendments, pesticides, compost activators, etc. are used.
