With our high performance building techniques we are trying to build the tightest house possible. We are vigilant about air sealing and this creates a problem when you have a commercial style range with a high CFM exhaust hood. Some hoods can be 600-1200 CFM of exhaust but our tight houses just can't infiltrate enough air to exhaust that volume of air. The solution is seen in restaurants, it's called a make up air system. In this video you'll see how we've adapted this for use in a residential house.
