The Proper Thinset Coverage for Floor Tile

In this video, I’m showing you the right way to lay floor tile so you get proper thinset coverage and a strong bond that lasts. A lot of people install tile by swirling the trowel because it’s fast, but that’s not the best method. When you spread thinset in circles or a swirl pattern, you can trap air underneath the tile, which stops the thinset ridges from collapsing properly. That means you may only get 75% to 80% coverage under the tile — and that’s not good enough for a floor or a wet area. The correct technique is called directional troweling. Instead of swirling the thinset, you want to comb it in straight, parallel ridges. When you press the tile into those straight ridges and move it back and forth, the air has somewhere to escape and the thinset can collapse properly underneath the tile. That’s how you get close to 100% thinset coverage. The industry standard for tile floors and wet areas is 95% coverage, and that coverage is what gives you real bond strength. When floor tile is installed properly with directional troweling, good thinset contact, and full coverage, the tile becomes extremely difficult to remove. This is one of the most important tile installation tips for DIYers and homeowners: don’t swirl your thinset. Use directional troweling, collapse the ridges, and get the coverage your tile floor actually needs. #floor tile #tile installation #directional troweling #thinset #thinset coverage #tiling tips #DIY tile #bathroom renovation #HomeRenoVisionDIY If you found this video useful and entertaining please subscribe to our channel 💪 FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA INSTAGRAM👉🏼 https://www.instagram.com/homerenovisiondiy/ FACEBOOK👉🏼 https://www.facebook.com/homerenovisiondiy/ TIKTOK👉🏼 https://www.tiktok.com/@homerenovisiondiy Disclaimer: Videos produced by Home RenoVision DIY are provided for informational and entertainment purposes only.
