<description>While thought difficult to align and set up, this video shows how a 3.5 MHz direct conversion SSB phasing receiver can be aligned with the help of a RF signal generator (N3ZI DDS VFO kit) and the free FrequenSee Android mobile phone app. The receiver is incredibly simple - 3 transistors + 1 IC. It is based on a SSB phasing transceiver developed by SP5AHT. You can find SP5AHT's circuit at http://sklep.avt.pl/photo/_pdf/avt2906.pdf My modifications, which are pending publication in the G-QRP's Sprat, include substituting an LM386 for the audio amplifier, using a 3k - 3k audio tranformer for L6, changes around L2/L3 and leaving out parts used for the transmitter only. I run the receiver through a number of tests. It performs surprisingly well for the few parts it uses. Also the 20 - 30 dB opposite sideband rejection is a particular bonus compared to the usual type of direct conversion receiver which doesn't have any.
