<description>If I have to be honest, this is a lot simpler than I was expecting. In the past I looked at an older style widget and it was composed of two halves that separated forcibly with a loud pop because it was still under pressure. My guess is that this widget is filled with nitrogen and when the can is sealed, the guinness may enter the sphere and pressurise the gas inside it. When the can is opened and releases the pressure, the mixture of guinness and nitrogen is blown out through a small hole and possibly creates a mass nucleation effect to liberate more nitrogen from the drink. This gives the effect of draught Guinness being poured in a pub. Update - it appears that just before closing the can they inject a drop of liquid nitrogen that then pressurises the can and the widget. It seems to work quite well.
