        <description>Too often we try to improve the soil from the top down by adding stuff to the soil - fertilizer, teas, compost, mulch.  While this can help build the soil, most of the work done to build the soil is done under the surface.  It's there that the microorganisms feed on organic matter in the soil matrix and sugars from the plants to build the soil.  By leaving plants in the ground more we can continue the pump putting more sugar underground for microbes to feed off of.
