They may vary slightly in instructions but the bottom line is the same. A barrier of newspaper, wood chips, dried grass or leaves will stop soil from splashing onto your tomato plants. This will reduces the chances of soil born diseases from establishing on your tomatoes. It really works. Leaf spot is an example of a disease that is reduced. New to Gardening?
