The problem is the receiver is designed to mute between frequency steps. The modification described cuts a circuit board track to remove the mute and make tuning easier. It applies to the DX392/ATS818CS (ie the unit with the tape recorder). If you have the unit without the tape then refer to W9JES mods below.
