Activity was heard as soon as the band became available. The receiving setup comprised a homebrew NE602 upconverter feeding a Yaesu FT-817 transceiver. The converter's crystal is 4 MHz so 4.472 MHz on the dial is 472 kHz. The antenna was simply the ferrite loopstick in the converter.
