<description>In this video, I walk through a quick setup for running AISMon, a Windows-based AIS decoding application, on DragonOS FocalX using a Wine AppImage. I start by showing the installation of Wine and using Winetricks to pull in a missing DLL, allowing AISMon to run on DragonOS. I also setup a virtual audio sink in order to route audio between SDR++ and AISMon. What is AIS? AIS, or Automatic Identification System, is a maritime communication protocol used for transmitting real-time data about vessel location, speed, and other navigational details. It’s a crucial technology for vessel tracking, enhancing navigation safety, and providing situational awareness for maritime operations. How AISMon Works: AISMon decodes AIS signals by processing specific VHF transmissions, allowing users to capture ship data embedded within AIS messages. In this video, I use SDR++ and an RTL-SDR to receive test AIS transmissions while simulating AIS signals from a HackRF running AIS-Simulator. The setup directs AIS message data to the AISMon log, confirming that AISMon is receiving and interpreting transmissions accurately. Although no vessel positions are shown in this setup, I copied some of the messages from the AISMon log file into an online AIS decoder and received expected results. If you'd like a native Linux setup, check out my previous video on AISCatcher.
