While we are not certain of anything and I won't rest easy until I hear from Kara directly after she's been returned to her friends and bunkies, this is reason to feel a bit better. Of course, this could be shenanigans from the BOP and they could be lying to placate the women, but that feels like a stretch. Of course, there has been plenty of lying and misinformation... Kara and her attorney Allegra were both told about a "10AM meeting with lawyers" yesterday but Allegra knew nothing about this when it happened. Nobody is properly communicating with the attorneys involved, etc. Still there has been lots of talk among the other inmates in the compound, all of whom want their sisters back in the female unit. Folk in general population had been sending in requests and letters to anywhere and everywhere, calling and trying to keep the trans women with them where they are safer. Point of note: the unit where Kara and others had been moved was called "S A" ... It's apparently an old area of suicide watch that hasn't been opened since the pandemic. So while not technically a SHU or AdSeg, it was not the usual or proper place to house these girls. Yesterday we were worried about reports that everyone except Kara and one other inmate were due to be moved. The facts are slim because the government has been doing all they can to keep this quiet, including sealing the proceedings in Massachusetts over the Maria Moe matter... https://www.tampafp.com/trans-inmate-in-massachusetts-sues-trump-over-biological-truth-executive-order/ ... the DOJ and Trump Administration has been working so hard to keep this all sealed but reporters and lawyers are trying their best so disinfect things with sunshine. Right now, though, the fact that Kara and the others may be going back where they belong is huge. If they had been sent to other institutions or to male units, it would have been monumentally harder to get them back into female housing. Not to mention the horrific risk of violence and assault they would face. (CW: misgendering) - I am sad to say that the BOP staff are currently misgendering these women, addressing them as "gentlemen" etc. Kara has been asking to speak to a counselor and that hasn't happened yet. If you are a reporter, keep pushing on this. Ask for comment from the BOP, or you might even choose to ask for comment from Judge Irizarry who is the one that originally ordered Kara to be designated as female and held in female facilities and get her meds and proper treatment, etc. I personally wonder how the judge feels about the BOP flagrantly violating her rulings. To all of you: please follow up with your loved ones and check in on yourself, as well. Eat healthy meals, try to keep getting regular sleep, and remind everyone to be cautious and alert. These women will be under close scrutiny and any small infraction is likely to be punished, etc. Please keep in touch with anyone you can on the inside.
