Cactus plants can not only be used to hold water, but also to boil water. The prickly pear (Opuntia spp.) is the consummate survival plant in many ways. This plant is not only edible and medicinal but also the pads can be used to hold and boil (purify) water. In this video I test out a prickly pear cactus pad for both holding and for boiling water in. The nice thing is you not only can boil water in the pad, but you can eat the cooked pad afterward.
