It turns out that it's quite hard to make the suspect resistor emit smoke, and the electrolytic capacitor pop when you abuse it. Obviously I could have MADE it go bang if I had applied malice, but I wanted to test the real life failure scenario of the LED circuit going open circuit. After making the video I added a zener diode and new 1 Megohm resistor with much higher voltage rating. Estimated real power is just 0.2W as stated on the packaging.
