<description>Demonstrating a 3 transistor receiver built for a construction competition. It has just 3 transistors and under 25 components but tunes part of 80 and 40 metres. Key stages include selective front end with variable antenna coupling, infinite impedence single MPF102 FET detector (see VK4FUQ design on Elliot Sound Products website), BC548 audio amplifier and BC548 3.5 - 3.6 MHz ceramic resonator local oscillator. The set drives high or low impedance phones, providing comfortable reception in a quiet room. For this demonstration the audio has been boosted with an LM386 amplifier. The circuit and a constructional article appeared in the G-QRP Club's Sprat Summer 2013.
