Staying in a Disney hotel in their eerily-pristine planned community (the Stepfordesque "Celebration" Florida) you wouldn't expect to be startled awake in the middle of the night by angry shouting in the hallway. I groggily walked to the room door and heard continued belligerent shouting. I tried looking through the peephole to discern what was going on... and with how many people. Seeing a group of unknown folk in the hallway (some of whom were in hotel uniforms, while other folk were apparently holding their hands up) I became curious. I still didn't want to open the door (the hotel staff appeared to already be managing the situation, and I didn't feel like answering questions or being brought into whatever dispute was taking place) but tried to observe more in order figure out if this was a situation likely to quiet down anytime soon. To give my eye some relief, I opted pretty quickly to use my phone's camera in order to view the hallway from my phone screen as opposed to stooping down at the door. And in order to prevent the phone from sleeping or the camera from going dark, I hit record. Heh, right in time for a case study in failure to de-escalate, failure to just walk away, body posturing, foolish antagonism, pre-attack indicators, and more. (Things start to get physical at the 3:00 mark.) At least no one seemed seriously hurt (I think these two oafs were possibly friends or at least acquaintances) and the situation concluded with hotel security encouraging everybody to go back to their rooms (after first visiting the front desk to create a new room key, apparently?) In any case... it's nice to know we can always count on Florida to be Florida. (NOTE - not to snuff out a popular legend, but much of Florida's reputation for being a "crazy" place comes from their marvelous "Open Records" law, which should be a model for much of the rest of the country. Their great achievement feeds the myth that Florida is full of drunk, crazy white folk... https://www.miaminewtimes.com/news/how-floridas-proud-open-government-laws-lead-to-the-shame-of-florida-man-news-stories-7608595 ...i mean, that's true but not any more true than the rest of America. 😉
