<description>In this video we're going to start framing. We build over a vented crawlspace here, so we'll square up the mudsill and build pony walls before rolling floor joists. Finally we'll install the subfloor. Around here there are basically two ways to build out the crawlspace. One is to use girders to hold up the floor joists. The girders are supported by columns (or posts) that bear on pier pads. The other way involves strip footings and pony walls. We went the pony wall route for most of the crawl because it allows us to use up all our footing boards. Since we have some shear walls in the crawlspace we used up our left over Zip panels there. Above them are shear walls in the house. I reviewed the Stabila LA180 layout station for The Journal of Light Contruction a few years ago and it's so easy to use. We square everything with it. There are two options for floor joists common to our area. I Joists and sawn lumber. Because we have walls spaced about 10' apart, and I Joists are double the cost of DougFir, we go with 2x10 DougFir floor joists. There is no loss in quality to the floor system, we save money and actually using sawn lumber here is faster because the lengths are all about the same and there is no sorting through the I Joist pile. Thanks for watching. Please remember, I’m not showing the best way of doing something, just what works well for us. Oh if you use a drone for commercial work, you need to be part107 certified. Commercial work includes social media like YouTube if you plan to make an income off of that. I watched a video about this last May and then purchased the Part 107 Course https://sso.teachable.com/secure/245841/checkout/1320802/bundle-remote-pilot-plus-maneuvers?coupon_code=FRAMERS100&amp;affcode=245841_0eauthdo I studied and learned for 1 month and then took my test. I scored a 95%, which is a testament to how good Greg and the crew over there teach.
