<description>Practicing off-grid meal preparation is always a good thing and this meal turned out fantastic. The chili was made from our food storage items and the biscuits from supplies in our pantry. We even used honey for the biscuits made by our bees from several years ago. We cleaned up the pots afterward using less than 2 cups of water showing how it might be done when we are off grid with no running water. It was a fun experiment. Mix the dry ingredients together on a countertop using two bench scrapers until the lard is about pea size. Make a well in the flour mixture and pour in about half the liquid and mix with the bench scrapers. Continue adding liquid in small amounts and mixing until all the liquid is absorbed by the flour and a soft dough is formed. Knead only once or twice and pat out into a rectangle about 3/4" high. Cut with a sharp biscuit cutter and place biscuits in the Dutch oven. Cover and place over hot coals with 1/3 of the coals under the pot and 2/3 of the coals arranged on the lid. For a 10" Dutch oven, that would be 7 under the pot and 16 on the lid for 375°F. Bake about 25-30 miinutes until both tops and bottoms are golden brown. Serve hot.
