Low Power Diagnosis Class: No Trouble Codes (Part 2a)

This class is a great lesson in in-cylinder pressure analysis and why pressure transducer testing can take you to the right answer when other tests point you in the wrong direction. In this case, the vehicle felt like it had a plugged exhaust. Even the symptoms and some of the early test results pushed us that way. But the in-cylinder pressure waveform told a different story. By looking at exhaust-stroke pressure, intake vacuum, running compression, and valve event timing, we were able to prove this was not a restricted exhaust and move toward the real problem. Watch Part 1 here: https://youtu.be/8q1OaCYe8bY This is also a strong reminder that cam/crank correlation alone does not always tell the full story. The known-good comparison looked acceptable, yet the in-cylinder waveform showed clear evidence of a timing-related issue. If you want to get better at reading pressure transducer waveforms, measuring valve events, and using running compression as a diagnostic tool, this class is packed with value. 00:00 In-cylinder pressure proves it’s not a restricted exhaust 04:09 Running vs. cranking compression reveals a major breathing problem 07:52 Exhaust valve opening and intake valve closing both point to late cam timing 13:11 Spark timing checks show the whole event is shifted 18:47 Cam/crank correlation still looks normal because of a shifted crank keyway theory 23:26 Recall research and crank gear design support the damaged-keyway conclusion 29:43 Hard brake pedal was caused by low engine vacuum, not a bad brake booster 32:52 Final teardown begins to confirm the diagnosis 🔧 Looking for deeper training?
