http://www.edibleacres.org https://www.paypal.me/edibleacres - A simple and direct way to ‘tip’ to help support the time and energy we put into making our videos. Thanks so much! As we harvest our garlic, in some of the production beds we repeated a very successful experiment from a few years ago which worked again this year beautifully. Very simple pattern... Co-planting seeds for trees, especially nut tree seeds, with garlic at the same time in the fall, at the standard planting time for garlic, works wonders. The seeds are protected all winter from burrowing creatures, the garlic emerges first, making a 'wall' of garlic that protects the emerging seedling, and then as the garlic is harvested, a light release is created that allows the seedling tree to take canopy for the remainder of year one. No silver bullet or promises here, but a basic pattern language approach that can be adapted to similar analogs of plants and situations... We followed up the garlic harvest with black beans and an edging of transplants of winter squash to send outward into the weedy areas surrounding this bed. But many options are available! Use your imagination! Edible Acres is a full service permaculture nursery located in the Finger Lakes area of NY state. We grow all layers of perennial food forest systems and provide super hardy, edible, useful, medicinal, easy to propagate, perennial plants for sale locally or for shipping around the country… http://www.edibleacres.org/purchase - Your order supports the research and learning we share here on youtube. We also offer consultation and support in our region or remotely. http://www.edibleacres.org/services Happy growing!
