<description>This Old House plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey shows how to adjust a leaky tub stopper. (See below for tools.) SUBSCRIBE to This Old House: http://bit.ly/SubscribeThisOldHouse Richard helped a homeowner with a bathtub that wouldn't hold water. He first removed the cover plate on the overflow "trip lever" and pulled out the linkage and "plunger" inside. With those parts removed, Richard found that water was seeping by the bottom of the plunger because it wasn't adjusted properly. To fix it, he adjusted the threaded linkage so that the plunger would drop down farther when engaged, preventing water from seeping by. Richard then reinstalled the linkage and plunger, attached the cover plate, and the repair was complete. Tools for How to Fix a Bathtub Drain Stopper: slotted screwdriver, used to remove the trip lever plate, flexible retriever (if required), used to fish out brass plunger, pliers (if required), used for reattaching brass plunger, The bath, waste and overflow unit that Richard repaired was manufactured by: Gerber Plumbing Fixtures, LLC [https://www.gerber-us.com/] About Ask This Old House TV: Homeowners have a virtual truckload of questions for us on smaller projects, and we're ready to answer.
