Graywolf is the coolest ham radio project you haven't heard about — and in this overview I walk through every screen and feature of this all-in-one APRS station software. Graywolf bundles a software modem, digipeater, iGate, and beacon into a single binary with a gorgeous modern web UI, so you can put a full APRS station on the air without juggling Dire Wolf, a separate KISS TNC, and a pile of config files. In this video tour I cover the complete Graywolf interface and show you what's actually possible with the project: 🐺 What we look at: • The modern web dashboard with live packet logs and browser-based configuration • The real-time APRS live map — station trails, weather overlays, APRS-IS layer, and station popups with path and heard-via details • The built-in software modem (native Rust DSP, no external sound card tooling) — AFSK 1200 baud Bell 202, 9600 baud G3RUH, PSK, plus FX.25 and IL2P forward error correction and SDR input • The full-featured digipeater — WIDEn-N path handling, preset-driven fill-in / wide-area setup, duplicate suppression, and per-path filtering • The bidirectional iGate — RF to APRS-IS and APRS-IS to RF gating with configurable filters and packet origin tracking • TNC interfaces — KISS TNC over serial and TCP, plus AGWPE TCP for the packet software you already use • Beacons and GPS — static and GPS-driven position beacons, status and telemetry beacons, configurable intervals and paths • Observability — Prometheus metrics, SQLite packet logging, and a live packet stream Graywolf was created by Chris Snell (NW5W). The modem is written in Rust and includes a port of the AFSK demodulator from Dire Wolf by WB2OSZ — and benchmarks show it decoding the WA8LMF TNC test CD at the same accuracy as Direwolf, only far faster. The AX.25 decoding, APRS operations, and web API are handled in Go, and the frontend is built in Svelte. It installs as a single binary with packages for Debian/Ubuntu (APT), Red Hat (RPM), Arch (AUR), and a Windows MSI installer, and runs on x86-64 and ARM including the Raspberry Pi. This is an overview / feature walkthrough, NOT a step-by-step setup guide. 🔗 Links: Graywolf on GitHub: https://github.com/chrissnell/graywolf Graywolf Handbook (install, config, operation): https://chrissnell.com/software/graywolf/ If you're into amateur radio, packet radio, or APRS, drop a comment with your callsign and let me know if you'd like a full installation and setup tutorial next. 👍 Like and subscribe for more ham radio software deep dives. #APRS #HamRadio #AmateurRadio #Graywolf #Digipeater #iGate #PacketRadio #RaspberryPi #SDR #AX25 #APRSIS #DireWolf #RustLang #HamRadioSoftware #TNC #KISS #Beacon #DSP #RadioAmateur #HamRadioProjects 🔹My Favorite Gear - https://www.amazon.com/shop/km4ack 🔹Links mentioned in the video Graywolf on GitHub: https://github.com/chrissnell/graywolf Graywolf Handbook (install, config, operation): https://chrissnell.com/software/graywolf/ Raspberry Pi 2W - https://amzn.to/4nNyLZc Pi Hat & Case - https://amzn.to/4nLbLKe Baofeng HT - https://amzn.to/4fG37dM Digirig Lite - https://digirig.net/product/digirig-lite/p/10/ Baofeng Cable - https://digirig.net/product/baofeng-cables/p/10/ GPS - https://amzn.to/4eVmMGt 🔹Weekly Newsletter - https://mailchi.mp/40da1fe472e3/km4acknewsletter 🔹Follow Me Twitter @km4ack 🔹Cool Ham Gear - http://km4ack.com 🔹Support the channel through Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/km4ack 🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹 As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases
