<description>This week we jump back to the summer when I decided to experiment with my winter compost. For the most part the pile was made of kitchen scraps and was frozen over the winter. when spring came I took a blue tarp and covered it up. This helped to keep any smells down while it thawed. The best part about composting in the winter is the fact that the freeze thaw cycle breaks everything down so nicely! once the pile had melted all the way I mixed in some active compost and covered the bed in garden soil and grass clippings. This helped keep the smell down while allowing quash to be grown on top. During the summer the zucchini grew while worms took this bed to town. in the fall this bed was beautiful worm castings and full of worms! I have lovingly called my garden the Alberta Urban Garden.
