By NO means are we saying these guarantee protection or are better than other methods, just approaches we've found to work well in our system. We hope they can do the same for you and your feathered friends! Some highlights: Creating complexity in plant form has helped tremendously. Shrubs, vines, dense plantings (all are plants creating food, medicine and soil building) help make it hard for hawks to see prey, and easy for our hens to get to shelter within a few feet of anywhere. Hide-outs, and nooks under our coop, under high tunnels, etc., all provide year round places for hens to get our of the way. Ample housing for wild birds helps establish sentinel stations and other beings in orbit of the space who have huge interest in being aware of hawks approaching. It's like a rich, living alarm system to help our hens! So much more to learn, so many more adjustments and refinements we're sure, but we've had some really positive feedback thus far with these design elements.
