Much of this stems from the fundamentally different employment methods of the M1C but the U.S. Marine Corps and the M1D by the U.S. Army. Where one chose to optimize on accuracy over numbers (USMC M1C) and the other chose to take a tradeoff from accuracy for a greater amount of systems fielded (U.S. Army M1D). So what happens when you take the last version of the USMC's M1C Garand Sniper rifle to the range? The MC-1952 or MC-52 is an example of how the USMC will continue to chase accuracy until they achieve it. Suffice to say, if the MC-1952 were around in WW2, it would have certainly made a difference... assuming that the USMC could have gotten them produced in meaningful numbers...
