All you need to do is collect the nuts in the fall and store them somewhere cool and dry. They'll last for years. Take a handful or roughly 1 cup of nuts and smash them up (some layers of newspaper with nuts inbetween and a hammer will do just fine), Lightly roast them in a pot with no water at first, just to get the flavors started (optional), Cover with water, (better yet... cover them with freshly tapped maple sap!) roughly 1 gallon of water for a cup of crushed nuts will make a nice brew., Simmer for HOURS. We love doing it on the woodstove, and start it the day before we want to have the tea., Ladle tea with floating nutmeat into a mug, add a splash of maple syrup, and enjoy one of the best tasting teas on earth., Literally 1-2 hours of collecting nuts in the fall can mean gallons and gallons and gallons of delicious and filling tea you can enjoy the whole winter.
