These primary bile acids are then conjugated with glycine or taurine to form bile salts, increasing their solubility and effectiveness in emulsifying dietary fats. We then explore the composition of bile, which includes bile salts, phospholipids (mainly phosphatidylcholine), cholesterol, bilirubin, and electrolytes. The lecture details how bile is secreted into canaliculi, transported through the biliary tree, and stored in the gallbladder for release into the duodenum in response to cholecystokinin (CCK).
