Now that we're into spring we're shifting gears to start harvesting the compost they've been working on all winter. Some of it will be sent up and out into our main gardens, but a lot will remain for the season to raise crops in their yard in 2x4 inch welded wire fence loops of compost with crops planted into the sides as well as on top. We'll have many many columns of compost growing 3 dimensional crops in our chicken yard for us and the chickens. Its really enjoyable to continue to evolve this system with the mindset of thinking about what would make our chickens happiest while also getting the very most work from them we can. What a combo!
