How I Use my BlueTooth Earbuds with In-Flight Entertainment Systems Many of you know that my wife and I are flying almost constantly. Logging well over a quarter-million miles in the air each year between the two of us means a lot of time spent watching content on the in-flight entertainment system. This used to be no sweat for me and the audio experience tended to be pretty solid... because when flying through Denver in 2015, i had to replace a broken set of headphones and I opted to splurge and pick up a nice set of Sennheiser earbuds at the overpriced InMotion shop at DEN. So I've been able to listen to either my phone or the IFE with pretty solid audio quality for the past four years. However... since making the move to BlueTooth earbuds, I can of course play music or video on my phone, but I found myself at a loss whenever I wanted to watch the IFE. I would always have to dig out that old Sennheiser set, but the cable had begun cracking and fraying and one day I opted to stop carrying them. I instantly regretted that decision on the next flight. I had, as always, my BlueTooth earbuds (which are these, BTW... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P8KYMZJ ...they charge via USB-C and compared to some other options online which are utter hot garbage, these are great) but I had no way of plugging in to the 1/8" jack on the IFE. I opted to try the complimentary free headphones that the airline gives out, and instantly frowned. These headphones are only good for torturing your eardrums or possibly garotting a rowdy passenger in the row in front of you. They are the worst listening experience imaginable. (Honestly, without pressing my fingers into my ears to help blot out the sound of the jet turbines, it's not even possible for me to hear ANYTHING using these free headphones.) But I knew I didn't want to go back to lugging around wired headphones anymore. Enter, my solution... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EHSX28M ... this is a Bluetooth transmitter and receiver from TaoTronics. Originally designed to help integrate home stereos with new Bluetooth connected input devices or even auxiliary Bluetooth speakers, this is a terrific little unit. It has simple functionality and, important for me, it AGRESSIVELY pairs with selected devices. Bluetooth is still something of a hell landscape when it comes to getting devices to pair and talk to one another, so I was overjoyed to learn that this unit would easily pair with my headphones, my wife's AirPods, etc. It can even pair with multiple devices at once so she and I can both listen as we watch something on the IFE or on her iPad. As always, none of these links in my videos are affiliate links or anything like that. I just like sharing details of good items when I come across them. Have fun out there!
