Pretty reliably, each winter rabbits get bold and push their way through our fencing and munch in the garden. If we just grew annuals it would be a zero issue situation, they could just 'clean up' the garden and leave manure... However, we have many thousands of dollars worth of perennial plants we hope to be able to make our living with, and once the rabbits get focused on them we can have a lot of stress. Putting apple branch prunings outside of the garden, closer to their homes, can help a lot in keeping them from coming into the garden. We need to prune the apples anyway, so now we can do a task we need to do, take the 'waste' from that process and place it where we want fertility. The rabbits will then get their needs met, enjoy some nourishing food and put a significant amount of manure right where we'd want it. Integrate Rather Than Segregate... Obtain A Yield... Use Slow and Small Solutions We don't anticipate that this will be a perfect solution, but it can help move things in a different direction. Maybe we can find a balance and have this be a winter management strategy, or maybe it is just part of a multi-pronged solution to their being in the gardens...
