Head to https://squarespace.com/awesomeframers to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain using AWESOMEFRAMERS ! We’re back on the job site today, diving into the details of Monopoly Framing. If you’ve been following the Rational High Performance Spec, you know we’re always looking for ways to improve our air-tightness and thermal performance. In this video, we tackle a common framing headache: how to avoid cutting bird’s mouths in I-joist rafters. Our solution? Cant strips. I’ll show you how we rip them (using our "vintage" 2007 Bosch table saw), how to fix a bevel mistake when the math doesn’t match the gauge, and the proper way to install LVL ledgers for a rock-solid roof connection. Monopoly framing might look a little "wonky" at first, but it allows us to run our Zip System sheathing and R6 foam straight up to the roof deck, significantly improving our air sealing numbers. In this video: Ripping 29° cant strips with a custom LVL jig. Why we prefer Monopoly framing for air sealing. Drill vs. Impact: The ultimate clamping showdown. Drone walkthrough of the current structure and girder connections. Commercial work includes social media like YouTube if you plan to make an income off of that. I watched a video about this last May and then purchased the Part 107 Course https://sso.teachable.com/secure/245841/checkout/1320802/bundle-remote-pilot-plus-maneuvers?affcode=245841_0eauthdo&coupon_code=FRAMERS100 I studied and learned for 1 month and then took my test. I scored a 95%, which is a testament to how good Greg and the crew over there teach. That link will save you $100 off the course and support this channel. 00:00 Intro: The Secret to No Bird's Mouths 00:15 The Theory Behind Cant Strips 00:35 Tool Check: The 2007 Bosch Table Saw 01:21 PPE & Jobsite Banter Fabrication & Correction 02:00 Ripping 29° Cant Strips 03:06 Wood Butchery vs. Fine Woodworking 03:18 The Mistake: Fixing the Bevel Angle 04:29 Take Two: Using an LVL Jig for Better Accuracy 05:13 Cleaning the Saw & Crew Shenanigans Installation Phase 06:34 Fitting the Cant Strip to the Wall 06:50 Placing the I-Joist: Achieving a Flush Fit 07:38 Nailing Down the Roof Plane 08:09 Building Better with Squarespace (Sponsor) Ledger Work & Monopoly Framing 08:45 Beveling the LVL Ledgers (DeWalt vs. Milwaukee) 10:30 Fastening Plan: 3 Screws per Stud 10:49 Layout Discussion & Heavy Lifting 12:11 Impact Driver vs. Drill: Which Clamps Better? 14:07 Securing the Ledger to the Wall 14:49 The Ledger Installation Race Recap & Future Steps 16:33 Why We Use Monopoly Framing (Air Sealing Benefits) 17:22 Drone Walkthrough: Visualizing the Full Structure 18:27 Explaining the Ceiling Joist & Girder Connection 19:16 Zip System, R6 Foam, and Continuous Insulation 20:00 Outro: What’s Coming in the Next Video #building #construction #framing #huberpartner #ontheroadwithhew
