We cover the pathways of parasympathetic preganglionic and postganglionic neurons, including the role of cranial nerves III, VII, IX, and X and pelvic splanchnic nerves in reaching target organs. We then explain the physiological effects of parasympathetic activation, emphasizing its role in promoting rest-and-digest functions. These include pupillary constriction via the oculomotor nerve, stimulation of salivary and lacrimal glands, increased gastrointestinal motility and secretions, bronchoconstriction, and regulation of urinary and reproductive functions.
