A cold frame creates a microclimate that is roughly equivalent to moving a garden plot one zone to the south. And when I place a cold frame inside a polytunnel, I create a microclimate that is more like 2 zones to the south. Put another way, it's like moving my garden plot from Chicago to Tennessee.
