While I was stacking our freshly baled barley straw bales, Mark was busy cleaning the pit of our grain elevator system and got his finger crushed under the heavy grates that cover the pit.

Turns out, a crushed tendon that will likely need surgery.
But, in true farmer style... we were back at it later that day.

Also this week, we weighed some market lambs... vaccinated some freshly weaned bottle lambs and MARK actually helped ME ship lambs this week!!

Haven't sat down to figure out final results (but I will!) and I feel like overall, it was pretty successful?

These last few days were a nice pace and gave me time to NOT give up on the preg tox ewe and her very stubborn baby.
In fact, after maybe 6 feedings by the TUBE, I was finally able to feed her with the bottle.
I almost cried.

My sweet ewe Ruthie has been slowly getting skinnier over the last month. She's been a trouper and kept her appetite and positive attitude throughout, but today, she looked sad. It was time. These are the days a farmer dreads. When we know there is nothing more we can do for the animal, and when we realize the only humane thing to do is the euthanize. My only solace is I got to say goodbye, and she died with her daughter Ruby and me by her side.

Unfortunately, when it comes to hay, Mother Nature and I butt heads. A last minute change of forecast means scrambling around, calling in favours from awesome friends to get the hay baled and wrapped before the rain. Only to finish, and no rain. The struggle is real.
On a brighter note, we were able to get hay done just in time for Jessica's 15th birthday. Thanks to Dairy Queen for the ice cream cake. I was in no humour to make one.

I've noticed over the last week or so, his black wool is really starting to fade. This can happen with the Suffolk breed (I believe...) They can start out black, and then as they age, their torso can turn white.

Also finished planting my beets in our brand new garden.
Did a round with Mark on the corn planter.
And found out I have some new bottle lambs...
