In this video I look at an urban tree phenomena that I continually see in city's. For some reason cities love to set their trees up shedding water away from the crown of the tree. This forces towns and cities to have to water their trees with diesel trucks and imported water. Changing the levels, curbs, and design could make tree irrigation effortless and almost free while cleaning storm water and creating shade in cities.

Recently our city put up notices to spray our parks with herbicide. This frustrates me as it will never solve the root cause of the problem which is entirely based around land use, not invasive weeds. Our park is a space for kids and adults to commune, play and recreate, hardly a place that we want to be at risk of being contaminated with toxic herbicides.

When you start your first business it is tough to know how much to charge for your product and service. There are a couple of ways that you can go about determining this. They can include looking at the competition, looking at adjacent industries or sometimes just taking a guess. The real trick is understanding that the first price that you choose is just the beginning. Pricing is a fluid process and needs to be constantly adjusted. In this video we talk about all of these issues and how to look back on your successes and failures and adjust your prices as you go forward.

Dr. Peter Coombes is one of the world's experts on rainwater harvesting systems. Together with his grad students, they have conducted leading-edge research into the importance of the sludge layer and biofilms in rainwater tank systems. These layers have been shown to bioaccumulate heavy metals, microbes and debris from the water. In this video I talk about the snow melt that is going on right now in Calgary. Last summer we had a fraction of the rainwater that we typically get in a year. This winter we had record snow and cold. Given that snow is 1/3 of our annual precipitation we treat it like a waste product. Snow might be the lowest lying fruit that we have in these dry climates to hydrate the landscape.

In this video I talk about the early stages of a project I am currently installing in Southern Saskatchewan. In this project we will be installing a 25,000 litre (5500 US Gallon) Rainwater harvesting system for site irrigation.
