As always, I checked out the bitcoin scene: found some restaurants that accept bitcoin, bought a lemonade using bitcoin, visited the Ukrainian bitcoin embassy, and interviewed people on the street about whether they'd heard of bitcoin and/or use it.

Instead of the bitcoin recovered from the MtGox disaster going back to the account holders who own that money, account holders are apparently being paid back the equivalent of $400 per bitcoin. Which leaves about a billion dollars in value, that will go to... you guessed it. The guy who lost everyone's money to begin with.

Blockchain to Revolutionize Travel?

Recently in Kyiv I met an awesome company called "Winding Tree" that is disrupting the 7 trillion dollar travel industry using blockchain.

In online travel today, a few companies have a stronghold over the industry, and this raises costs and makes it really hard for innovation in the space. But perhaps Blockchain is the solution to this problem: decentralize the information and allow innovation to flourish.

That's what Winding Tree is doing, a company that is already in partnership with Lufthansa, Austrian, Air New Zealand, Eurowings, Swiss, Brussels Airlines, and Nordic Choice Hotels.

I chatted to them about their plans and about why they believe decentralization in this industry is important.

Why did they do this? Some say that Facebook has ulterior motives. I chat to tech journalist Josh Peterson about what he thinks.
